Paid and Organic Social Media Creator/Manager

Remote / New York  Part-time: 10–15hrs / week


Terms of Employment

Part time position with an anticipated minimum of 10 hours per week, with a possible maximum of 15 hours per week as the role expands. This is a one-year grant-funded position, with the possibility of extension contingent on available funding.

The compensation for this role will be $25.00 USD per hour ($13,000.00 USD annually at 10 hours per week). Workers compensation will be included. Benefits include three weeks of PTO, which can be used as vacation and/or sick days

Purpose

This role will support the work of 350Brooklyn’s Media Team, and will explore and implement methods to broaden and enhance 350BK’s social media presence.

Job Description

The employee will support the work of the current 350Brooklyn Media Team. This will include, but is not limited to, the following activities:

Posting Cadence Responsibilities

Post a minimum of 3 times in-feed on Facebook and Instagram per week

  • Minimum 3 additional times on Instagram Stories per week
  • Minimum 5 times on Twitter per week
  • We’d love to eventually get on TikTok, but no requirements at this time

Content to be Posted

  • First priority: posting 350BK initiatives (i.e., campaigns, actions, fundraisers, monthly meetings) to social media platforms
  • Second priority: posting recaps or photos from 350BK actions or events that are sent to you for circulation
  • Third priority: Any other items included in newsletter or sent by 350BK SC or partner organizations (i.e., external campaigns or other non-350BK-sponsored items)
  • Fourth priority: Posting appropriate external climate stories and features
    • Could be re-sharing news from reputable outlets, re-posting content from other environmental organizations, screenshots of articles, etc; any information or educational material that would be of interest to Brooklyn-located climate activists

Monitoring and Responding

  • Responding to requests from partners for social media support and re-posting their content where appropriate
  • Monitoring social inboxes and responding or escalating to relevant parties within 350BK
  • Responding to comments or tweets on 350BK’s channels in ways that strengthen our networks and build community
  • Leaving comments or replying to tweets as 350BK outside our owned channels (e.g., partners, politicians, organizations, etc.)

Creating Simple Graphics

  • Creating graphics for 350BK upon request using Canva, Illustrator, Sketch or similar tools consistent with our branding guidelines, and suited for the website and social media channels
  • Doesn’t require your own illustration skills, just a good visual sense using templates or existing graphics!
  • We’re not expecting elaborate or highly designed graphics for every post – we just want graphics to easily communicate events and info that are consistent visually

The employee will primarily work on a remote basis with flexible hours. They would preferably conduct at least some work for 350Brooklyn every day of the week and track their own hours.

Preferred schedule: 1 hour per day seven days a week, with a few days of their choosing having an additional hour

Next-best schedule: 5 days a week (one being a weekend day) of 2 hours per day

The employee is also expected to attend the monthly Media Team’s meeting and will also be asked to attend Steering Committee meetings early on in their role to build familiarity with the organization and its members.

This position will be under the direct supervision of Media Team leadership, but will work closely with the Administrator.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Ability to work collegially and collaboratively
  • Responsiveness and flexibility in tasks and requests
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision
  • Fluency in the English language and strong communication skills
  • Deep familiarity with and interest in social media platforms, both paid and organic
    • Facebook, Instagram, Twitter necessary; TikTok a huge plus
  • Basic graphic design skills using software like Canva (more advanced programs a plus)
  • Honesty, integrity, and strong work ethic
  • A strong desire to combat the climate crisis
